Now Viewing: zelda_musouTag type: Copyright A.k.a. Hyrule Warriors Tag refers to the non-canon Zelda hack and slash spinoff game developed by Omega Force, Team Ninja, and Nintendo SPD and published by Tecmo Koei and Nintendo for the Nintendo Wii U. It was released on August 14, 2014. Unlike the main Zelda game franchise, there is less emphasis on exploring dungeons and solving puzzles with the focus shifting to participating in large scale battles. The game matches the Zelda universe with the army clearing gameplay of Koei's Shin Sangoku Musou franchise and accordingly, Link is given far more crowd clearing attacks than he does in his canon series. Link also adds a blue scarf to his iconic outfit and, in this incarnation, is portrayed as a soldier of the Hylian army. He also fights alongside the Hylian army. Players can own Link's scarf for themselves if they purchase the Collector's Edition release of the game. Link is also no longer the only playable character and players can play as other characters such as Zelda's female bodyguard Impa, who is playable for the first time. Unusual for the Zelda franchise, the game adds a large amount of female playable characters to the point that Aounuma estimates that they fill up half of the game's character roster. Besides Impa, Zelda herself is also playable and this incarnation of the character is one of the most action-oriented as she is also able to take on entire armies. This incarnation of Zelda is also the first one to be officially designated as a Queen. This is also the first official Zelda game that allows the players to play as the antagonists. This game takes elements from multiple Zelda continuities and puts them into one game, like the popular fairy companion Midna, who is playable, and the moon from Majora's Mask, making the game function as a sort of in-franchise crossover. Unlike other Musou games, this game follows the Zelda tradition of having the voice acting consist of grunts and other noises. Like other Musou games and in contrast to other Zelda games, this game has a rock heavy soundtrack. The game's soundtrack includes many remixes of past Zelda tunes. The main concept of the game was conceived by Team Ninja developer Hayashi Yosuke when he was discussing with Tecmo Koei executive VP Koinuma Hisashi a potential Nintendo Musou crossover. The two men picked Zelda because they and many other Tecmo Koei staff members admired the series. They approached Zelda director/producer Aonuma Eiji and showed him One Piece Kaizoku Musou as an example of what kind of game they wanted to make. Aonuma agreed to the crossover and decided to act as a supervisor for the game because he saw this game as an opportunity to do something different and gradually break away from long-standing Zelda traditions.
